Wednesday. After the early start we rode 72 miles to syringe, Idaho. A delightful ride flat to slightly down hill. The whole route followed the lochsa river downstream with each side bordered by high forested hills. Had a delicious piece of marionberry pie at lunch. They explained that it’s some combination of two different types of berries. I didn’t really pay attention. Hopefully I’ll be able to post some pictures of the beautiful scenery we’ve encountered in Idaho over yesterday and today.

So, now it's going to be marionberry pancakes for Sunday night dinners? Wasn't that the name of a governor somewhere? (Marion Berry, not pancake. Caryn
ReplyDeletemarionberry is a hybrid blackberry developed at oregon state and named after county in which it was developed. the river ride sounds idyllic and one to be repeated, at least once in a lifetime. Remember; "the woods are lovely, dark, and deep" but you have plenty of promises to keep. love david and ann
ReplyDeleteIf you are in Portland Saturday morning, stop at the Hollyrood farmers' market for fresh Marionberries. One of my favorite treats when in Portland is Marionberry jam on French toast made from Helen Burnhart's raisin challah. Yum!!!! It should be downhill all the way since you are on the other side of the Continental Divide. Most impressive endeavor. Keep on pedalling.

I was just looking up where you are and found the lochasa river. Isn't Idaho gorgeous?!! Tom and I spent some time in Island Park last year and are going back there in the fall. It's south but beautiful country.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy those marionberries - they are so good. Great pie and jam. We eat everything marionberry when we are out in Oregon.

ReplyDeleteAnd I've been told about a place called Voodoo Donuts in Portland. We've gotta find that place!

Dave and Ann, don't read this if it's before mealtime. I haven't had voodoo donuts yet but have been told by reliable sources that they are a treat. I believe they exist near Stephen's office. He has a Friday morning group who bike to a coffee clache and I think voodoo has been one of their destinations. Another thing Portland is Stumptown coffee--the best. Impossible to brew a bad cup. BTW, Joe, you're almost there. After all, this is about you, isn't it.
